Cooperation between countries is essential for the development of a country. The Regional Cooperation Agreement is a state agreement for inter cooperation between the countries of Asia and the Pacific. The main objective of the adoption of this regional cooperation agreement is to promote cooperation with individual countries and the International Atomic Energy Agency in the peaceful uses of nuclear science.
Currently, the RCA agreement has been signed by 17 countries in Asia and the Pacific, Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The RCA annually plans for the coming year and the following are the important proposals approved by the Regional Cooperation for 2022 – 2023
- 1. Improving the safety and quality of radiotherapy in Asia Pacific region through auditing and medical physicist training.
- 2. Improving the quality management practices in radiation processing facilities for better performances and applications.
- 3. Standardization of radiotherapy in palliative care in the RCA region.
- 4. Strengthening clinical application of hypo fractionated radiotherapy in the RCA region.
- 5. Assessing and mitigating agro-contaminants to improve water quality and soil productivity in catchments using integrated isotopic approaches.
- 6. Enhancing the regional collaboration in water and environmental isotope analysis for improvement of water management practices, an effort to alleviate climate change impacts in Asia Pacific region.
- 7. Enhancing regional capabilities in advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques and applications for improved safety and inspection performance in industries.
- 8. Increase of crop productivity under drought conditions by using isotope techniques to optimize water usage
As in previous years, all member states agreed to implement regional cooperation in a systematic manner. This program will undoubtedly have important results both at the regional and international level.
