The National workshop on “Introduction to Cyclotron Based PET and other Radiopharmaceuticals production in Sri Lanka” was held on 27th -29th March, 2023 at Colombo

A National workshop on “Introduction to Cyclotron Based PET and other Radiopharmaceuticals Production in Sri Lanka” was organized by the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board (SLAEB) in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Aim of this workshop was to provide an introduction to the production of FDG and other radiopharmaceuticals in Sri Lanka and to highlight the applications of cyclotron-based PET radiopharmaceuticals in the medical industry.

42 participants representing Apeksha (Cancer) Hospital, The National Hospital of Sri Lanka, Asiri Surgical Hospital, Medical Supplies Division, Central Environmental Authority, Access Engineering (Pvt) Ltd, Hayleys Lifesciences (Pvt) Ltd, Premium International (Pvt) Ltd and Sri Lanka Atomic Regulatory Council were attended in this workshop.

It was held from 27th to 29th March 2023 at the Auditorium of the SLTC Research campus, TRACE Expert City, Colombo 10. The Workshop was conducted by the IAEA expert, Dr.  M.R.A. Pillai, Group Director, Molecular Group of Companies, Molecular Cyclotrons Pvt Ltd, Ernakulam, Kerala, India. The topics covered in the workshop included;

  • Introduction to Radiopharmaceuticals
  • Cyclotron-based FDG production in Sri Lanka
  • Quality Control and Regulatory requirements
  • Applications of PET/CT scans in the Medical Industry

This National workshop was important for Cyclotron based PET and other radiopharmaceutical production in Sri Lanka under the Cyclotron project that has been implemented by Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board.
