Deputy Director – Life Sciences

Mrs. Thiwanka Weerakkody, the Deputy Director of Life Sciences, has 12 years of experience in Nuclear Analytical Techniques with special reference to Gamma spectrometry and Gross Alpha Beta techniques and Research and Development activities related to Nuclear Analytical techniques, Nuclear Agriculture, Marine radioactivity, etc. She graduated with a B.Sc (Sp Hons) in Botany from the University of Ruhuna in 2006,  M.Sc in Plant Sciences from the University of Peradeniya in 2010, and MPhil in Radiation Dosimetry from the University of Kelaniya in 2019.

She joined the Atomic Energy Authority in 2012 as a scientific officer in the Life Sciences Division and was promoted to senior scientific officer in 2022. She was promoted to her current position on June 4, 2024. Additionally, she is working as a Radiation Protection Officer in the Life Sciences Division and Corporate Quality Manager of the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board.
