Guest Lecture on “AI and Machine Learning for Research: A Dive into the Future”
A full-day guest lecture titled “AI and Machine Learning for Research: A Dive into the Future” was successfully conducted on 11th February 2026, from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m., for the staff of the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board (SLAEB).
The lecture was organized with the objective of enhancing research capacity and professional development among SLAEB staff, particularly in emerging digital technologies and their applications in scientific research.
The session was delivered by Mr. Ruwan Fernando from ICBT, who provided comprehensive insights into the fundamentals and advanced concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).
The lecture covered key topics including:
- AI concepts, machine learning models
- Research applications
- Data-driven decision-making
- Future trends in AI-enabled scientific research.
Participants were actively engaged throughout the session through discussions, practical examples, and interactive learning activities. The lecture highlighted the potential of AI and machine learning to transform research methodologies, improve analytical capabilities, and enhance innovation across many fields, including agriculture, industry, and medicine, while also providing valuable insights for our financial staff in improving financial management, planning, and decision-making processes.
