The Regional Workshop on the “Application of the Radioactive Waste Management Registry (RWMR)” was held at the Hotel Galadari from 24th to 28th April 2017. This was organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in cooperation with the Government of Sri Lanka through the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board (SLAEB). Thirty five (35) participants from nineteen (19) countries of Asia Pacific Region were participated in this event.


IMG 5917The workshop is designed for the IAEA Member States, who are participating in the Technical Corporation (TC) Project RAS9085 to provide guidance on the use of the Radioactive Waste Management Registry (RWMR) software. The RWMR is a software tool that has been developed by the IAEA for recording and managing of information on various phases of the radioactive waste management.
The purpose of this five-day workshop is to provide knowledge and practice necessary to enable the participants to use the IAEA developed Radioactive Waste Management Registry (RWMR). All information relevant to radioactive waste (Disused Sealed Radioactive Sources (DSRS) management processes should be recorded systematically as an integral part of a well-structured quality management system.
An inaugural ceremony was held at Salon Orchid of the hotel Galadari with the participation of Mr. Lakshitha Jayawardana Chairman/SLAEB, Mr. Vajira Waduge, Director General/SLAEB, Mr. Anuruddha Jayalath, Course Director and directors from other divisions of the SLAEB.
The welcome address and opening remarks were delivered by the Chairman SLAEB Mr. Lakshitha Jayawardana.
The opening remarks with an overview of the TC project RAS9085 were presented by Mr. Gashaw Gebeyehu Walde, the Programme Management Officer, Division for Asia and the Pacific, Dept. of Technical Corporation of IAEA.
The workshop was conducted by the IAEA experts, Mr. Ognjen Borovina and Mr. Juan Carlos Benitez Navarro.
A part from the class room activities a technical visit to the National Center for Non-destructive Testing (NCNDT) and Sri Lanka Gamma Center (SLGC) was included to the workshop programme.
