Quality Policy

Certification Body for Non Destructive Testing, Sri Lanka (CBNDT) provides reliable qualification and certification services to the satisfaction of its customers in accordance with ISO/IEC 17024:2012 and ISO/IEC 9712:2012

 

CBNDT understands the importance of impartiality in carrying out certification activities, manages conflict of interest and ensures the objective of certification activities. It is committed to provide equal opportunity to all the applicants with highest regard to transparency, integrity, and confidentiality.

 

All staff of CBNDT themselves are familiarized with the content of the Quality Manual and comply with the Policies and Procedures laid down in the Manual and associated documentation, at all times. CBNDT is committed to continually improve the effectiveness of the management

 

The mission of CBNDT is to establish and facilitate the Non Destructive Testing (NDT) personnel certification and qualification activities in Sri Lanka to create a value for the NDT industry, the NDT profession, users of NDT and the wider community.

Specific objectives:

  • To be equally accessible to all the certification body applicants who wish to be certified within its scope and capability
  • To be impartial in its decision on criteria and process of certification
  • To be independent of any undue influence of any stakeholder and to conduct its business professionally
  • Continuously review and upgrade technical content of the certification activities and upgrade the CBNDT with competent personnel (certifiers, examiners, etc.)

History

  • 1996 - Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Authority initiated NDT Training and qualification activities with an Examination Committee which was chaired by the Chairman of Atomic Energy Authority.
  • 1997 – Sub Committee meeting on Non Destructive Testing was held in “The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL)”
  • 2000 - NDT section of Atomic Energy Authority achieved the ability of conducting NDT training courses in five methods (MT, PT, UT, RT and ET) up to Level 3.  
  • 2001 – Examination Committee was renamed as NDT Committee of the Atomic Energy Authority and qualification activities were carried out as per ISO 9712:1998. The mandate of the NDT Committee was to administer the NDT training and qualification programmes, to explore the possibilities of upgrading the NDT programmes, and to facilitate the establishment of a National Certifying Body for NDT.
  • 2008 – NDT committee was temporarily appointed to make necessary arrangements to establish a National Certifying Body (NCB).
  • 2009 – National Certification Body for qualification and certification of Non-Destructive Testing personnel (NCBNDT) was established as per ISO/IEC17024:2003.
  • 2011 – Duly qualified two Sri Lankan examiners were certified.
  • 2013 - Certification process was initiated as per ISO 9712:2012.
  • 2013 – National Certification Body for NDT-Sri Lanka was declared accredited as per ISO/IEC 17024:2003 by Sri Lanka Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment.
  • 2015 – National Certification Body for NDT-Sri Lanka was declared accredited as per ISO/IEC 17024:2012 by Sri Lanka Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment.
  • 2017-National Certification Body for NDT-Sri Lanka (CBNDT) was registered under the ICNDT Multilateral Recognition Agreement for Personnel Certification Bodies.
