“Raise awareness of the benefits of Nuclear Technology through the Youth Nuclear Society of Sri Lanka (YNSS)”

 Youth Nuclear Society of Sri Lanka (YNSS) was established in 28th April 2008.Main Objective of YNSS is to make aware of Youth Generation regarding the peaceful applications of Nuclear Science & Technology. In addition YNSS links with their parent body on International level as “International Youth Nuclear Congress” Network. Now more than 800 members have been taken the membership of the Society. (mid June 2012)

This programme mainly focused on Nuclear knowledge Management, Education on Nuclear Power Generation, establish a propaganda among young generation to make them aware of peaceful uses and stablish the benefits of nuclear science and technology & transfer the Nuclear Knowledge from current experts to Youth Generation.

This would be helpful for the future generation to effectively contribute using nuclear technology to sustainable national development priorities of the country. In addition YNSS Programme can be developed as the grass route level of proposed NPP Programme of the country.

Objectives of YNSS

- Promote peaceful uses of Nuclear Science and Technology.

- Develop new approaches to communicate the benefits of Nuclear power as a part of a balanced energy mix.

- Transfer knowledge from the current generation of experts to the next generation.

- To get the active participation of the YNSS members in the program launched by the AEA to Generate electricity using Nuclear power.

YNSS organised the first Digital Video Conference (DVC) Programme, collaboration with American Center, Colombo, Sri Lanka on 11th March 2009. Dr. Kent Williams, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Department of Energy, USA participated for the programme to share the knowledge with Sri lankan audience on peaceful applications of Nuclear Science & Technology. Dr.Williams participated for the programme as a guest speaker from Washington DC.

YNSS organised the Prize giving Ceremony for the Winners of “Essay & UNA/ USA Competition” for the celebration of 40th Anniversary of Atomic Energy Authority (AEA) on 30th June 2009 at the Auditorium, AEA.

YNSS organised the second Digital Video Conference (DVC) Programme, collaboration with American Center, Colombo, Sri Lanka on 09th September 2009. Mr. Michael kurzeja & Ms. Elizabeth Mc Andrew- Benvides of North American Young Generation Network in Nuclear (NAYGN) were”participated for the programme to explain on peaceful applications of Nuclear Science & Technology as a guest speakers from Washington DC. They contributed for the programme in an outstanding manner and highlights the Key points & current trends of “Nuclear Power Generation for the Electricity”

Second Annual General meeting of YNSS was held at Auditorium,AEA on 06 th September 2010.In fact that YNSS conducted the Lectures on Principles of Nuclear Science, Nuclear Power & Non-power applications, Highlights of IYNC 2010 & Role of YNSS etc.

- To the Debate Team of Kuliyapitiya Central College for the Inter-school Debate Competition on 22nd March 2011.

- To the Debate Team of D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo 08 for the participation of “Sirasa” Islandwide Inter-school Debate Competition on 02nd May 2011.(Winner of the Competition)

- Under the “Raise awareness of the benefits of Nuclear Technology” , Youth Nuclear Society of Sri Lanka (YNSS) conducted 02 awareness programmes in Pollonnaruwa recently.
The School Seminar was conducted to the A/L Biology and Mathematics Students on the theme of “Peaceful applications of Nuclear Science/ Electricity Generation using Nuclear Power” at Royal Central College, Pollonnaruwa on 20th February 2013.

Under the theme of “Raise awareness of the benefits of Nuclear Technology” , Youth Nuclear Society of Sri Lanka (YNSS)  conducted many awareness programmes recently. The Seminar Conducted to the Officials in Air Force Trade Training School, Ekala, Ja-Ela on the theme of  “Electricity Generation using Nuclear Power”on 08th October 2012.

Quizzes/ Speech Competition parallel to the “ Deyata Kirula 2013”

National Exhibition in Ampara, 23rd - 29th March 2013

During the Competition more than 70 students (Ampara, Monaragala, Karaitivu, Badulla, Matale, Kandy, Dehiaththakandiya, Samanthurai etc) were felicitated with the Oxford Mathematical Instrument Box & Certificate. In fact that, YNSS make arrangements to given certificates  to the students who assist us from Hardy Advanced Technological Institute, Ampara. In addition, YNSS stall displayed the full spectrum of the “ Electricity generation using Nuclear Power” by Posters, Leaflets & Video display. Also, I try to explained in my level best to the visitors of YNSS/ AEA Stall on various technical aspect of the Nuclear Power as per their reqests.

In fact that, YNSS make arrangements to given certificates to the students who assist us from Department of Applied Science, Wayamba University. In addition, YNSS stall displayed the full spectrum of the “ Electricity generation using Nuclear Power” by Posters, Leaflets & Video display. Also, we try to explained in my level best to the visitors of YNSS/ AEA Stall on various technical aspect of the Nuclear Power as per their requests.
