New Chairman of Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board
Mr. Lakshitha Jayawardhana, Attorney-at- Law, completed his secondary education at Royal College Colombo, and entered Sri Lanka Law College for higher studies in Law. He was an office bearer of Law Students’ Union and excelled in oratorical competitions as well. Before called to Sri Lankan Bar, he completed his apprenticeship period in the Attorney Generals’ Department of Sri Lanka. He took oaths as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 1999.Subsequently he completed a Diploma in International Relations from Bandaranaike Center for International Studies, Colombo.
Mr. Jayawardhana started his professional carrier in Law, as a Junior Counsel in the Chambers of Dr. Wijedasa Rajapakshe, Presidents’ Counsel. Subsequently he started his own practice. His areas of interest include Civil Law, Labour Law, Human rights and Constitutional Law.
At the beginning of his carrier, Mr. Jayawardhana engaged in legal research at Law & Society Trust, a Colombo based Legal Think Tank. He also worked as a Legal Consultant to Independent Television Network Limited (ITN), Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, and LTH Holdings (Pvt) Limited.
He served as a board member of several Government institution and private companies, among them are; National Environmental Council, Selacine Television institution and Sri Lanka Standards Institution.
He participated in several international workshops and seminars in the fields of Human rights, Humanitarian Law, Refugee Law and Intellectual Property Law organized by International organizations such as Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Red Cross, Dignity International, and World Intellectual Property Organization.
Mr. Jayawardhana served as a Coordinating Secretary to Minister of Power and Energy and Minister of Technology and Research, prior to his appointment in January 2015 as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board.
